Kitchen Cabinet Ideas

by Christine Julianne

There are hundreds of options for your new cabinets. Kitchen cabinet ideas are practically endless.

The first thing you need to do is decide how big of a project this will be. Are you going to tear out the cabinets and give the kitchen a completely new look, or are you simply touching things up?

If you're on a very limited budget, a refinish is the best option. Just get started: Remove those cabinet doors and all the hardware. You can do a simple paint or stain job once you've prepped the surfaces. Or, you could go with a multi-step finish.

Cabinet refronting is another option. Many companies do this, so it shouldn't be hard to find them. What this process involves is leaving the "bones" of the cabinets in place.

However, the installers will take down the doors and front faces of the cabinetry and replace them with a design you've chosen from their inventory. You don't have to go through the hassle of remplacing removing the cabinet structure; you get a new look without the cost and hassle of the other option.

If you decide to redo the whole thing, you'll still have hundreds, perhaps thousands, kitchen cabinet ideas from which to choose. If you're new to cabinetry installation, and you want to do it yourself, do your research.

It may be best to consult with an experienced installer to make sure you understand all the nuances. The other option is to pay someone else to install the cabinets for you.

There are lots of places to go if you want to choose new cabinets. Consider finding great deals online. Many cabinetry makers have wonderful online showrooms.

Large home improvement stores have a great selection of cabinets, in all different styles, from contemporary to traditional. Even some discount stores and home products retailers have options for new cabinets. Specialty stores will have an even larger selection of kitchen cabinet ideas. Be sure to shop around, because you never know what you'll stumble across!
